Produce heaven

A lady from my church came in a large bag of squash. She had summer, butternut, and one little acorn squash.
She the squash for everyone to pick what they wanted. Well, nobody took any and the bag was still on the table. So I took it all (insert evil maniacal laugh here). Not really she told me to take what was left.

I have never had an acorn squash before and I really did not know how to cook it so I went on Tasty Kitchen and found some yummy recipes. This is the one I stuck with. The little green guy never saw it coming.
Slicing was a little difficult because this puppy was hard. Acorn squash are firm.
So start with the tip of the knife in and work your way across to split the squash in half.

With a spoon scoop out all the insides. I saved the seeds so that I may one day have my own acorn squash. Maybe not.
Sprinkle in a little salt. Put in a dab of butter. Everything is better with butter. Then sprinkle in some brown sugar.
Pour in enough water to cover the bottom of the cookie sheet. Don't you like my cup. My son let me borrow it. After I pulled it from his hands. That's good parenting.
Oh I forgot to tell you that I scored the inside of the squash. You can barely see the lines here. Cover the pan with foil and leave a small vent for some steam to escape.
Put in the oven for 30 minutes, covered. Then pull it out and uncover it. Put it back in for another 30 minutes or until soft. Take out you squash and use a spoon to bast the squash with the butter and sugar juice.
Bad picture. Sorry. My lighting was going away and the moon was not in the 7th house and the planets were not exactly aligned.   Put the squash back in the oven on Broil this time and leave for 4-5 minutes. Don't walk away. Burned squash will not taste good.
I put my squash on a pretty plate. My favorite is my Fiesta Ware. This color is Shamrock.
ooooo......  that is making my mouth water. Yum.  You can eat it just like this. That is not good enough for me.  I had some leftover chicken and rice with peas. So I heated it and piled it on top and all around.
This was all for me. The husband was not here and there was no way my son would have eaten this. I tried to get him to taste it and he ran screaming from the room. He is just like his Daddy. Eats like him too.

I Feel like Chicken Tonight

My husband and I wanted to grill some chicken we had in the freezer.  We bought a large pack of thighs and drumsticks.  I love to grill. My dad and mom taught me to grill when I was fairly young.  I loved to go and watch them grill all the food.  My husband on the other hand was never taught how to grill. I think he just didn't like to be in the smoke. Don't tell him I said that. He can be dainty. I don't mind the smoke, it gives me an outdoorsie smell. Yeah I said outdoorsie. It smelled so good while it was cooking just look....
It was getting dark outside and I have a puny camera so it is blurry, but you get the idea. I wish we had scratch and sniff.  Go ahead scratch and imagine the smell of bbq chicken grilling.  Yum.
It was as good as it looks.
The smell of these were so intoxicating that my poor dogs just stood next to the table so they could  just inhale the aroma.
Buddy
Gracie.  She is a little dark.
Poor Buddy he is just begging.  One piece would not be so bad. Then that would mean one less piece for me. Sorry Buddy.

Side note: My husband is not "dainty". He will go and mow the jungle in our back yard in the middle of the day while it is CRAZY hot and very humid. I on the other hand will barely stick my big toe out in the heat. I end up with weird marbleing on my legs from the heat.  I'll put pictures of that soon.  It was really strange, like red waves.

Again?!

Rain rain on my face
Hasn't stopped raining for days
My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud.

Anyone know where that comes from?
These are called mamatus clouds. Thanks Skip.

Love Confession

My birthday was last week, the same day as Father's Day, the same day we left for camp. It was a very busy day. I don't usually celebrate my birthday. It just doesn't feel natural to me to do so. Mostly because I don't want to be reminded I'm getting older. The night before my birthday I woke in a panic. I shook my husband until he woke up. He was not happy so I knew I had to get this out fast before he fell asleep again. "Honey, it is only 3 more years until we turn 30!! I can't turn 30. I'm too young to turn 30! It is just not right. God wouldn't let this happen to me." My usually sweet, caring, comforting husband rolled over and told me "It's gonna happen. Go to sleep." " But honey I can't sleep!" I did not receive an answer after that.

So that day he took me to one of my favorite places, Pier One. I LOVE that store. I could spend hours in that store. I always come out with something, usually it is on sale. (Ministers wife remember) As we were walking through something caught my eye. It was a coffee mug. I have a fascination with coffee mugs. I don't like for all of my mugs to match and I love big mugs. Well, this mug is in my favorite pattern, Cow Print!!
I fell in love. I called to my husband and said "Look!! I love it. I must have it." He looked over the mug and gave me a horrified look "It has utters" "Yes it does!! I can't believe it either!" He then walked away. Sadly I put the mug down and walked to the other side of the store, deflated. When I eventually came back he had the mug in his hand, along with something else. This.....Oh yes, it is a cow print creamer. When I stopped jumping up and down. I noticed a polka dot (my other favorite pattern) croc. Oh No! I knew he would not get me all three. So which do I choose. It was like Sophie's choice. Maybe not, I've never seen Sophie's choice. I was torn. There was another person there who came to my rescue. My mom. She grabbed the croc and said "Happy Birthday".
Oh, it was a beautiful day! I now have a croc to put all of my wooden spoon and my spatulas in. Oh Happy Day! My loot from Pier One. Dangerous store for me.
I now must confess. I love cows and cow print. I don't know why. I always have. I used to ask my mom for a cow hide. I never knew what to do with it, I just loved the way they looked. I even used to pet them. My mom always said "No". Bummer. It may have been that they were pretty expensive, or just ugly to her.
Mom why couldn't I have a cow hide? I would have kept it in my room. Mom? Mom? You there? tap....tap... tap...
I guess she left. So throughout my house now there are little touches of cow print. Mostly on my son's things. I thought if I buy cow things for him it would not look so strange. He has a cow chair, cow toys, cow clothes. Until one day we were in Stork Land (bad store for new moms). Out of the corner of my eye I see it. A cow print Britax Diplomat carseat!! To my husbands embarrassment I yell "No Sir!" I don't know what I meant by that I was just excited. My husband actually thought I was yelling at him, so he dropped what he was holding. Poor man. Long story short, the carseat came home with us that day. Here is my son in his new carseat. Isn't it wonderful.
If you have any cow print or cow things you don't want I will gladly take them off your hands. My husband won't like that at all.
